All Things Dance

My instructional practices are designed in cohesion to my desired student outcomes. The instructional practice that I embody heavily relies on the unit and the specific needs of the class. For technical dance units, I am the facilitator of the dance content, modeling and designer of movement practices. I model the foundational movement, design level specific technical skills and choreograph movement phrases that combine these two aspects of technical acquisition. I also serve as a lecturer during these units, as I research and create presentations to help students develop contextual understandings in the historical aspects of what students are studying. In choreography units, I am merely the facilitator as I present prompts, create criteria and teach strategies for the dancers to problem solve their compositions while either alone or in groups. I also serve as a consultant for dancers when creating to assist with options they can employ within their work. When facilitating my careers in dance unit, I am the conduit to connect my dancers with established professionals in the field. I bring in guests to talk with my students about the tools necessary for success and pitch in information as necessary. I stage the conversation while my students and other professionals in dance have the conversation of acquisition and success. My diversified instructional practices allow my students to learn from myself, others and themselves. The content I introduce to my students allow them to understand dance through multiple lenses.
As a result of taking my dance class, students will achieve: technical competency in multiple genres, develop an artistic voice, ability to analyze dance written and orally, choreograph content based on specific prompts, develop an artistic voice based on global and domestic contexts, assist and educate fellow dancers, acquire leadership skills through rehearsal practices and choreographic/ improvisational projects, perform for large audiences with confidence and competence. Lastly, through exposure to multiple industry professionals, students develop diversified people skills and the ability to learn dance from anyone and everyone with expertise in dance.
